Biography

Jazmin was born and raised in beautiful Los Angeles, CA. She attended Cornell University where she worked in the lab of Professor Frank Schroeder to discover and synthesize antifungal natural products produced by the nematode Pristionchus pacificus. After graduating, Jazmin moved to conduct her PhD as a NSF Graduate Research Fellow at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign working with Professor Steve Zimmerman on acid-amplifying polymers for applications in drug delivery and degradable materials. She left Illinois for one summer to work at Hope College in Holland, MI as a visiting graduate student in the lab of Professor Jeffrey Johnson. There, she led a project focusing on developing new directing groups for rhodium-catalyzed decarbonylation. After finishing her PhD, Jazmin joined the Lamb lab as a CSP Postdoctoral Fellow and will be working on developing sustainable polyurethane materials.

Outside of research, Jazmin has been very active in diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts through her long-term involvement in SACNAS, graduate student recruitment, and mentorship programs for underrepresented students. She enjoys teaching chemistry and completed a teaching certificate at the University of Illinois and recently participated in the UMN Mentorship Program for Aspiring Chemistry Teachers. During her free time, Jazmin spends her time traveling, swimming, relaxing with her cats, and eating good food.
