Brandon Hosford
Education
M.S. Chemistry, University of Minnesota - Twin Cities (2023)
B.S.A. University of Texas at Austin (2020) - Advisor: Prof. Eric Anslyn
Biography
Originally from Houston, Texas, Brandon received his B.S.A. from the University of Texas at Austin in Chemistry with an Elements of Computing Certificate. During the latter half of his degree, Brandon worked in the Eric Anslyn Lab researching the use of amino acid-like monomers in ribosome-mediated polymerization; a method of creating sequence-defined polymers. After graduating, Brandon joined Erisyon - a startup founded by Eric Anslyn and a few other researchers at UT Austin developing a new technology for protein sequencing with single molecule resolution.
At UMN, Brandon is in the Switchable Catalysis subgroup in the Lamb Lab, working on the combination of multiple polymerization mechanisms to make interesting block copolymers. He also serves as the chair of the Analysis and Compliance Committee for the Joint Safety Team (JST), and is the treasurer for the POLY/PMSE student chapter. In his spare time, Brandon likes playing disc golf and taking too many pictures of his cats.
