Arpan Is originally from Rampurhat, a small town in the state of West Bengal in India. After completing bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Calcutta, he attended National Institute of Technology, Rourkela for his masters and conducted research on palladium and copper catalyzed cross-coupling reactions. He moved to the United States to pursue his doctoral study in organic chemistry and joined Professor Syed Hussaini’s lab to study transition metal-catalyzed carbene transfer reactions. He successfully developed a copper-catalyzed sulfide contraction reaction using electronically divergent diazo compounds to prepare diverse enamino carbonyl compounds. In the Lamb group, he is working on development of new methods for sustainable polyurethanes. When not in the lab, Arpan likes to read, watching movies or sports and exploring new restaurants.
